Harrison Helmers and Lucy Wilson have been named the winners of the McDonald’s NSW Junior Player of the Season for 2017/18. From the Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Club in Newcastle and Parramatta Women’s Grade Cricket Club respectively, the ten-year olds were selected as the outstanding male and female junior players in NSW.
McDonald’s are the major community partner of Cricket New South Wales and the McDonald’s Junior Player of the Week competition is run across the state over the course of the season. Each week a male and female player from Sydney metro and Sydney regional areas are chosen by Cricket New South Wales and recognised for their outstanding achievements.
Harrison had a fantastic season for Western Suburbs (Newcastle) Junior Cricket Club in both the Under 11 Green and Under 11 Magenta competitions as part of ten Under 11 Stage 1 Cricket Australia Junior Formats Competitions which ran across the Newcastle Junior Cricket Association during season 2017/18. Over the season Harrison posted some incredible stats including: not out six times and scoring at more than a run a ball on a staggering eleven occasions. Harrison’s season also culminated in a Grand Final win with Wests Green.
Speaking of his season, young Harrison whose favourite cricket team is the Sydney Sixers said, “Winning the Grand Final was very special for me because I was the Captain that day and the team played great. I had a broken toe, so it made it harder to run but I still got 31 runs off 15 balls. I like playing with Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Club in Newcastle with all my mates.”
